Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that a Russian missile hit one of the city's Islamic Cultural Centers, which is housed in a mosque. He condemned the attack, stating that Russia shows utter disregard for spiritual and human values, as well as for any religion or faith.

Zelenskyy emphasized on social media that "the world must recognize that Russia's aggression extends beyond Ukraine to target humanity, dignity, and human life." He called for strong condemnation and decisive action from the international community, asserting that such barbaric acts have no place in the modern world.

The attack came just a week after Russia launched a massive countrywide assault on Ukraine, which Zelenskyy described as one of the largest aerial offensives since the conflict began in 2022.

Russia last Monday fired at least 127 missiles and 109 drones in an attack that lasted over eight hours.

The strikes on Monday coincided with the start of the new school year for children across Ukraine. Despite the ongoing war and numerous challenges, President Zelenskyy remarked, Ukraine is doing everything possible to offer children the greatest opportunities. The fact that our schools and higher education institutions are functioning today is a testament to the resilience of our people and the strength of Ukraine.
