Rebecca Cheptegei, a 33-year-old Ugandan marathoner who had competed in the Paris Olympics last month, died after she suffered serious burns in an attack by her boyfriend, the country's athletics federation confirmed on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday.
Cheptegei lived in Kenya and had been in critical condition since the attack on Sunday at her home in Trans Nzoia County, where she sustained burns to 75% of her body. News of her death was also confirmed by the Kenyan Olympic Team on X.
