Massive civil protests have been going on for more than a month against the rape and murder of a young doctor |
(NEWS UPDATE USA FAST)-- The agitating junior doctors of Kolkata have declared not to budge from their night street sit-in. However, the government wanted to discuss with 10 representatives by emailing them in the evening. State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also waited for the doctors. However, hundreds of thousands of doctors are sitting on the road in front of the state health department headquarters, rejecting that proposal.
These junior doctors went on strike to protest against the rape and murder of a young woman doctor at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. At the same time, a non-political civil protest has been carried out for over a month against this incidence, which many believe was not seen in independent India.".
Contrarily, the Supreme Court ordered the doctors to withdraw the strike by 5 pm on Tuesday and return to work. The junior doctors decided to defy that instruction and continued the movement.
Those doctors started picketing in front of the health department headquarters from Tuesday afternoon onwards. Many ordinary citizens also joined them.
The protesters have remarked that the latter, which was sent by the state health secretary on behalf of the government to the agitators to sit down for discussion, uses insulting language.
At a press conference at the site, they said, "I demanded the resignation of the state health secretary, health director and health-education director and police commissioner of Kolkata. Even then, if the state government shows positive attitude, gives a message that the five demands will be met, then I will discuss with everyone.
The protestors are saying that the young doctor from RG Kar Medical College has become a victim of the rampant corruption going on in the health department. That is why the health department is doing a 'cleaning operation' on Tuesday, said the junior doctors.
